DELHI 2010 COMMONWEALTH GAMES
FLAG HANDOVER CEREMONY
COMMUNITY
ENGAGEMENT
MASS CAST PLACES
Information re a unique opportunity to be part
of the Handover Ceremony at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi
[Thursday 14 October] on offer to three lucky Aberdeen residents.
The Handover Ceremony marks the Flag Handover from Delhi
to Glasgow which will showcase Glasgow and Scotland to the rest of the
world.
Each local authority across Scotland
has been offered 3 fully funded places within the Mass Cast, and these places
will ensure involvement of members of communities who may not ordinarily be
interested or involved in such a project.
The eight minute creative performance will involve a mass choreographed dance
routine with a cast of approximately 400 amateur volunteers from across Scotland,
on the field of the spectacular Jawaharial Nehru Stadium, in front of a
capacity crowd of 65,000 and beamed live across the Commonwealth to an
estimated audience of 1 billion.
The aim of the opportunity is to recognise and reward people who regularly
make a contribution to their local community through volunteering, in
particular those involved in the 17 sports featured in the Glasgow 2014
sports programme [aquatics, athletics, badminton, boxing, cycling,
gymnastics, hockey, judo, lawn bowls, netball, rugby 7s, shooting, squash, table tennis, triathlon,
weightlifting and wrestling].
Please find attached an information
sheet and more importantly the application form for potential participants.
