David Lloyd Junior Open (A Event) – Glasgow May 2006

May is not exactly the greatest month of the year to have a tournament, as it very definitely clashes with exams and hence the Under 19 & Under 17 boys events were particularly badly affected on this occasion, with many of the top players missing. In fact there was no Under 19 competitions. The rest of the age groups, however, were up to the usual standard with most of the top players in attendance. Grampian once again produced remarkable results despite having no fewer, than 3 of our current National Champions and 2 ex National champions missing.

The girls Under 17 event attracted 7 entrants and produced a Grampian final with Robyn Hodgson proving too strong for the much improved Mhairi Charlton. Mhairi, however, was to have the satisfaction of winning the Under 15 title. In the boys Under 15 event, Sam Allan was the champion with other Grampian players, Jarod Shuttleworth, John Ramage, Tim Davidson and Michael Boyne all finishing in the top 12.

The Under 13 competitions saw Rosie Allan runner – up in the girls event and Chris Leiper similarly runner – up in the boys. It was pleasing to see Andrew Forbes and Robbie Paterson finish 6^th & 7^th respectively in that age group.
