Grampian Squash Foundation
The Grampian Squash Foundation provides structured
coaching support, for players who demonstrate the motivation, commitment, and
potential to compete at either Club, Regional, National or International level.
aims to create a player pathway that
shall provide Grampian’s players with access to the support that they require,
in order for them to achieve their personal potential & goals, within the
sport of Squash;
aims to provide a pathway that is
supportive of what is happening at Club level, linking the clubs activities to
that of the Development & Area Talent Squads, within the Region;
aims to practise activities within the
Development & Area Talent squads, which will prepare the players adequately
for progression into the National Talent Squads & Academy Squads, where
appropriate;
the objective of the Foundation is to
provide a training platform within the Region, where both coaches & players
are able to develop their skills.
The Grampian Foundation management team
consists of a regional Director of Coaching (DoC), a Regional Head Coach and a
further two Development Coaches, along with the Region’s Development Officer
(RDO) and Junior convenor.
The DoC’s main duties are to deliver the
Performance squad coaching sessions and Line manage the coaching team within
the region. The DoC will also be required to provide tutoring support and
liaise with the RDO who will arrange appropriate coaching courses for the
Region’s coaches. The DoC will also be required to produce the session plans
for the Performance Squad and also assist the Head Coach with the Development
Squads’ session plans.
The
Head Coach will manage and run the Development squads within the region and
will be assisted by two Development Coaches. Together they will run the
sessions in line with “National Best Practices”. The Head Coach will be
qualified to a minimum standard of that of a Level 3 Coach and the Development
Coaches qualified to a minimum standard of that of a Level 2 Coach. Each of
these coaches will be members of the Performance Squads in order that they have
an understanding of, and be up to date with, the “National Best
Practices”.
ALL
qualified Club Coaches within the Region will be eligible to apply to become
Assistant Foundation coaches and similarly will learn “National Best
Practices”, which they in turn will be able to take back & practise at
their own clubs.
Advice
on how best to structure junior squads will be provided by the Grampian
Director of Coaching, who will also be able to assist with Session planning at
Club level if required.
The Foundation is run by a management panel, which will decide on such matters as squad selection and squad issues. The management panel is chaired by the Junior convenor or (the President of Grampian Squash if the Junior convenor is otherwise involved) and will include the Grampian Director of Coaching, Grampian Head Coach and the Regional Development Officer (RDO). The chairman shall be the link with the Grampian Squash committee and report on the Foundation’s progress and any other issues.
The Development Squad is aimed at providing support
and advice for players and coaches at grass roots/ participation level. This
programme is aimed at taking players through the “FUNdamentals” and toward
“Training to Train” stages of development. For coaches, this will happen
through a coach mentoring/ workshop scheme looking to educate and assist
coaches to develop sound organisational and coaching practice.

to allow juniors to progress, and to have the opportunity to compete at an
appropriate level within the Region & Nationally.
To be eligible for selection into the Development
Squad, players must;
be
resident or a member of a club, within the Grampian Region;
be
willing to represent the Grampian Region in any inter Regional or County events
when appropriate;
be prepared to make a commitment to a
holistic system of player development, with openness of communication between
coaches and all players and parents.
Coaching from appropriately qualified and
experienced coaching Staff;
20 x 1.5 hour coaching sessions through -
out the season;
An opportunity to develop your squash
skills with players of a similar ability level within your own Region;

The Performance Squad has the purpose of assisting
our promising players, junior or senior, to make the transition into players
who can challenge on a higher stage. It shall offer a modern, systematic and
holistic approach to player development
utilising a comprehensive programme of progression. This programme will
be designed to operate in full consultation with players, parents and personal
coaches, and will take players in the
“Training to Train” stage through to the “Training to Compete” stage of
development.

can compete successfully at National

the transition from National to International standard;
aims to ensure that Grampian players have
equal opportunity and access to either specific coaching or sports science
support and advice, where appropriate, by linking in to the National Junior
Groups’ programme.

be able to demonstrate to the coaches
panel the psychological, physical and technical characteristics necessary to be
successful at a national level;
be prepared to make a commitment to a
holistic system of player development, with openness of communication through
the coaches to all players and parents.
